Where is the line between the tool and the author?
Many artists already use AI as an assistant: it helps to create a sketch, generate ideas, select color combinations. But the final decision and artistic choice remain with the person.

However, there are those who call AI a full-fledged co-author. In some projects, it is not even clear who is “in charge”: the person who set the direction, or the algorithm that produced the result.

Can AI replace artists?
More likely no than yes — but it is already reformatting the field. AI can:

Automate routine: background elements, animation, reference generation.

Provoke inspiration: offer unexpected combinations of styles and forms.

Experiment with an infinite number of options — something a person simply will not have time to do.

But uniqueness, symbolism, philosophical depth — are still the prerogative of a person.

What do artists say?
Opinions are divided. Some consider AI a threat — especially in commercial art, where the customer does not care about the soul, but rather the result “in style X, urgently and inexpensively.”

Others see AI as a new tool — like a camera, a graphic tablet or 3D programs once were. The artist remains the one who makes the decision, and AI is just a brush in his hand.

Legal and ethical issues
If AI generated a work, who is the author? The programmer? The user? The company itself? Or AI? There is no clear answer to this. Different countries have different legal norms.

There is also the question: is it possible to teach AI on other people’s art? After all, it “learns” from the works of real artists, sometimes even reproduces their style – without permission.

So, can a machine be an artist?

If we are talking about technical execution, style and aesthetics – yes, AI can create impressive art.

If we are talking about human experience, the inner need to create, the spiritual component – not yet. AI does not feel, does not suffer, does not dream. Its “creativity” is a mirror of humanity, a skillful simulation, a reflection of our data, tastes and trends.

Conclusion
AI has come to the world of art seriously and for a long time. It will not replace a human artist, but it will certainly become his companion – a source of ideas, an assistant and even an interlocutor. The main thing is not to be afraid, but to learn to work with a new tool. Like any technology, AI can be destructive – but it can also become a continuation of human genius.
